Arrest Creek Monument

The Kenniff Monument at Arrest Creek is a striking tribute to one of Australia’s most dramatic frontier stories. This minimalist, rust-red sculpture marks the site where the Kenniff brothers, Australia’s last bushrangers, were finally apprehended in 1902. The abstract figures depict Patrick pinned to the ground by police troopers, while an Aboriginal tracker stands guard, looking out for Patrick’s brother, James.

Old Kenniff Courthouse

Step back into 1902 at the Old Kenniff Courthouse, the original site where Australia’s last bushrangers, Patrick and James Kenniff, were committed to stand trial. This historic landmark offers a gripping look into the murders of Constable George Doyle and Station Manager Albert Dahlke. Inside, you can explore archival displays and court records from one of Queensland's most controversial legal battles.

Maranoa Art Gallery

The Mitchell on Maranoa Gallery is the cultural heart of Mitchell, Queensland, uniquely housed in the beautifully repurposed Maranoa Picture Theatre. Originally built in 1929 and rebuilt in 1943 after a fire, the building served as a cinema until 1985 before being transformed into its current role as a vibrant arts precinct and library. The venue frequently hosts community events, such as the annual Gunggari Dandhigu Exhibition, which celebrates the local Gunggari people’s connection to Country.

Events

Mitchell hosts several events throughout the year such as the Mitchell Show, the Maranoa Diggers’ Races, the Mitchell New Year’s Eve Bash & Rodeo and the Mitchell Campdraft.
